About the Role

As content marketing associate you'll own our daily writing and social presence as we build a movement. We're The #1 Most Loved Program By Homeschool Families in America, serving over 125,000 families in our 16-year history. We're pioneering a new category called "open education."

We're looking for someone with taste, humor, and the ability to spot what's interesting in the alternative education world.

Your job is to speak the language of existing communities—homeschoolers, unschoolers, microschoolers, and alternative educators—while expanding the conversation to millions of families who don't yet know this is possible. You'll write and publish the daily newsletter, repurpose that content into engaging social formats, and ruthlessly analyze what's working to double down on winners and kill what's not.

Key Responsibilities

Content Writing & Curation

  • Own the production of "OpenEd Daily" (our newsletter), taking raw ideas or curated links and polishing them into a finished narrative
  • Identify the "OpenEd Spin" on current events, news, and trends in the education world
  • Repurpose newsletter themes into high-performing social content (X threads, LinkedIn posts, video scripts)
  • Collaborate with the social media intern to ensure visuals and scheduling match the quality of the writing
  • Ruthlessly analyze performance data to identify winners and losers
  • Double down on what's working, kill what's not, and constantly experiment with new angles

Content Strategy & Category Building

  • Help pioneer the "open education" category while speaking to homeschoolers, unschoolers, and alternative educators
  • Expand the conversation beyond traditional homeschool audiences to families who don't yet know customized education is possible
  • Monitor the alternative education ecosystem for relevant news, research, and conversations
  • Suggest content angles based on audience engagement and platform performance
  • Collaborate with Head of Content on content calendar and strategic direction

Success Metrics

  • Consistent daily delivery of high-quality newsletter and social copy with minimal edits needed
  • Growing audience and engagement (open rates, replies, shares, comments)
  • Demonstrated ability to "close loops"—taking a loose concept and driving it to a published piece independently

Who You Are

Must-haves:

  • Strong portfolio of written content (personal newsletter, blog, or social handles) that demonstrates voice and persuasion
  • Good taste and aesthetics—you know what good writing looks like and you spot "cringe" instantly
  • Strong understanding of and passion for alternative education, homeschooling, or customized learning
  • Attention to detail—you catch typos and formatting errors that others miss
  • Self-directed and comfortable working with minimal oversight; you close loops rather than creating new ones

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with newsletter platforms (like Beehiiv, ConvertKit, or HubSpot)
  • Background in the customized education world (homeschool parent, worked at alt-ed org, etc.)
  • Were homeschooled yourself and understand the culture firsthand
  • Experience using AI tools to speed up research and outlining (we can teach this, but willingness is key)
  • Video editing or short-form content creation skills

This Role Will Excite You If

  • You want to build a movement, not just manage a calendar
  • You love taking a messy idea or a rough transcript and polishing it into a diamond
  • You have strong opinions about education and believe families deserve better options
  • You prioritize "done" over "perfect," but you never sacrifice taste
  • You want to spend less time in meetings and more time creating
  • You're excited by the challenge of pioneering a new category while speaking to existing communities
  • You'd rather be part of a small, high-trust team building something significant than a large corporate department

Team & Workflow

You'll work directly with our Head of Content, who provides strategic direction and raw material. You will also collaborate with junior team members to ensure visuals and scheduling align with the quality of your writing. Weekly syncs for planning, feedback, and performance review.

Bonus growth opportunities: As you demonstrate capability, there is potential for this role to scale into a full-time position or take on broader editorial leadership.
