The Role:

Backstage is seeking a Data Analytics Engineer - Marketing Technology with experience in marketplace ecosystems and a passion for working with marketing teams to improve campaign spending and drive personalized communications. You will join our data team, which currently includes two Data Engineers, a Data Scientist, and a Senior Manager, Business Intelligence.The data team is part of the larger Product and Engineering department, which consists of high-performance engineers, designers, product managers, analysts, and quality assurance resources. The data team supports seven businesses within TCS, applying a unified data strategy across all of them. Our data engineering efforts are dedicated to strengthening standardized data assets and reporting which drive business decisions, meticulous high-return market reach, scalable personalized communications, and custom product experience for customers. Every month, we bring together all GMs and key cross-functional stakeholders for a data roadmap meeting, where we collaboratively prioritize the most valuable work for the organization. This process ensures that the projects you work on are always high-impact, aligned with current business needs, and built on a data strategy that delivers continuous, reusable value over the long term.

As our Data Analytics Engineer, you will be working with large-scale, session-level customer and event data to enable user journey analysis, sophisticated attribution modeling, and in-depth behavioral analytics. In this role, you will design and maintain Amplitude and Looker reporting, harmonize multimodal data into a unified layer, and partner with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making. Your work will enable future AI innovation, revenue optimization, and operational excellence. A major component of this role will include tying behavioral and web metrics to revenue and retention.

The Data Analytics Engineer will report to Backstage’s Senior Manager, Business Intelligence. 
 

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with marketing to design, develop and maintain Amplitude and Looker dashboards that track channel mix, campaign performance, segmentation, and ROI to drive informed decisions.

  • Transform client-side and server-side track events (i.e., telemetry data) into customer journeys that  aggregate over dynamic windows of time to provide actionable product and marketing insights.

  • Instrument new identity and event tracking to support multi-touch, cross-channel attribution and downstream reporting in Amplitude and Looker.

  • Define audience segments using Redshift warehouse data (PostgreSQL), enabling personalized marketing across email, ads, and lifecycle campaigns.

  • Build and maintain data integration pipelines, including reverse ETL workflows with Hightouch, to connect warehouse data to marketing platforms for activation.

  • Document and govern event data and user attributes, ensuring a consistent, single-source Customer 360 profile with clear definitions and semantic consistency across systems.

  • Maintain awareness of customer compliance impacts on reporting, ensuring all data syncs align with customer consent and cookie preferences.

  • Develop, optimize, and manage scalable data transformations in dbt and implement software engineering best practices such as version control, CI/CD, and automated data quality controls.


 

What we’re looking for from you:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or related fields supporting customer or marketing teams.

  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing attribution models in Amplitude, including event tracking and multi-touch attribution techniques.

  • Expertise configuring Amplitude data schemas and properties for accurate marketing attribution and analysis.

  • Proficiency in Looker modeling and dashboard development to translate attribution and business requirements for marketing and product teams.

  • Proven ability to design and implement a unified 360-degree customer view by integrating data from multiple sources.

  • Strong SQL skills, with experience in dbt and modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).

  • Experience building scalable data pipelines and reverse ETL workflows to feed marketing activation platforms like Hightouch

  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality best practices, and privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA) impacts on reporting.

  • Experience with CI/CD, version control (e.g., GitLab), and software engineering best practices in analytics environments.

  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across business, product, and engineering teams.

  • Comfortable working autonomously in a remote setting, with strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Passion for using data to solve business problems and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The compensation range for this position is: $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year.
