The Saving, Access, and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Bureau within the Michigan Department of Treasury is looking for a dynamic leader who has excellent leadership skills, strategic planning abilities, high ethical standards, and a positive attitude to join their team. This position serves as the Deputy Director of Michigan Education Trust (MET) within the Saving, Access, and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Bureau. MET is an Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 529 prepaid tuition program governed by Public Act 316 of 1986, which permits an individual or business to pre-purchase tuition for a Michigan college or university. The Deputy Director is responsible for assisting the MET Executive Director in overall programmatic and administrative functions, reviewing, and updating policies, procedures, and plans for operational functions as well as representing the Executive Director in external and internal outreach. This position will direct the functions of the MET staff by setting work priorities, monitoring accountability and productivity to ensure Division, Bureau, and Department goals are met. In the absence of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for MET program administration, oversight of Michigan Education Savings Program (MESP), MI 529 Advisor Plan (MAP) and the Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund (FFS). MESP is an IRC Section 529 direct-sold investment-based college savings program and MAP is an IRC Section 529 broker-sold investment-based college savings program, both governed by Public Act 161 of 2000. FFS is a scholarship and endowment trust fund governed by Public Act 525 of 2008 as revised in 2014.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Note:  A position is considered professional if the job requires a bachelor's degree. Qualifying ‘professional experience’ is only taken into consideration post-bachelor’s degree.

Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Alternate Education and Experience

Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

Official
 Transcripts. For our purposes, "official college transcripts" must contain the applicant's name, college/university name and address, the degree conferred, and date granted, coursework completed (especially if no degree granted), the Registrar's signature and/or seal, and MUST be recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). A scanned or electronic copy is acceptable, as long as it contains the elements listed above. Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process.

Foreign Transcripts: Applicants who possess a degree from a foreign college or university MUST have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless the degree has been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Civil Service accepts evaluations of foreign credentials from National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process.

Remote Work. This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The selected candidate must have a secure, safe and appropriate designated workspace that allows privacy and prevents distractions to perform the duties of this position. Additionally, the selected candidate must have secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Remote work arrangements are subject to management approval and may be adjusted or discontinued at any time.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position prior to being appointed to the position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

E-Verify. The Michigan Department of Treasury participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
