Overview

The Human Resources Generalist administers Human Resources related activities for a specified branch or region. Works directly with employees, supervisors, and Human Resources leadership to ensure compliance with Association policies and procedures and applicable employment law. Supports HR leadership in coordinating employee relation issues and investigations. Promotes equity, fair treatment and positive employee relations.

SCHEDULE:

  • This exempt position generally follows a Monday–Friday schedule during regular business hours. Flexibility is occasionally required to meet program and staff needs, which may include early morning, evening, weekend or holiday coverage in alignment with Community Support Services operations. 

WORK DESIGNATION

  • Remote (must work within San Diego County Region)
  • The Human Resources Generalist supports programs operating throughout San Diego County and may occasionally travel to program sites or administrative locations. In-person attendance at meetings, trainings, and events is required as needed to maintain connection with teams and ensure effective partnership with CSS and HR leadership.

PROGRAM SUMMARY

This position supports Community Support Services (CSS), including Childcare Resource Services (CRS) and Youth & Family Services (YFS), within a fast-paced, multi-program environment. The role requires strong organization, judgment, and collaboration to manage competing priorities, support diverse teams, and ensure compliance with funding, program, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with operational and Human Resources leadership to effectively execute Human Resources processes  
  • Partner within assigned area to ensure Human Resources process, policies and procedures are being administered in a consistent manner
  • Collaborate with Human Resources leadership to identify opportunities and implement initiatives  
  • Assists with investigations for employee relations claims and ensures objective and fair treatment of all employees in these investigations  
  • Assists in the termination process of employees of assigned area/branch  
  • Point of contact for Human Resources related questions from employees or managers and may direct them as appropriate 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have access to reliable transportation to travel regularly throughout San Diego County 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience  
  • At least two (2) years’ experience working in Human Resources or certificate in Human Resources  
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines simultaneously  
  • Keen understanding of local, state and federal employment law  
  • Strong ability for conflict management  
  • Data management skills and ability to use data to effectively influence decisions  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)

PRE-HIRE CONTINGENCIES:

  • Licensing, state law, and government funders require that all staff (hybrid, remote, or onsite) within YMCA San Diego County are fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, within 30 days of hire, and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute 
  • Position may require additional clearances in order to comply with all program, licensing, state law, and funding requirements:
    • Exclusion and Debarment checks prior to first day and monthly thereafter

Pay Range

USD $70,304.00 - USD $78,747.88 /Yr.
