LGBTQIA+ Affirming Support Worker (Trans Woman Support Preferred) – Penrith, NSW – Remote

We are looking for a compassionate, open-minded, and non-judgmental Support Worker who can build a genuine connection with a participant and provide support that is respectful of their identity, values, beliefs, relationships, and lifestyle.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a female Community Support Worker who is LGBTQIA+ affirming and comfortable supporting a participant with a diverse range of interests, beliefs and relationship structures.

A trans woman Support Worker is highly preferred for this role, as the participant feels that someone who shares or understands her lived experience may help foster stronger rapport, trust and a sense of comfort and connection.

• Patient, empathetic, calm and emotionally grounded
• A good listener who takes the time to understand the person they support
• Supportive of autonomy, independence and personal choice
• Comfortable discussing personal or difficult topics appropriately
• Able to remain calm and reassuring when the participant becomes overwhelmed
• Reliable and consistent in maintaining a trusting support relationship

Support Area

Penrith, NSW

Community access and transport around Sydney, depending on the participant’s activities and requirements.

Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to recurring shifts, helping provide consistency, familiarity and continuity of support.

The Support Worker most is being genuinely curious and willing to learn about what the participant enjoys.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will:

• Facilitate meaningful community access and social participation
• Provide safe transport to appointments and activities
• Support participation in activities that reflect the participant’s interests
• Build a trusting and authentic support relationship
• Encourage independence without being overly directive
• Respect the participant’s identity, choices, relationships, beliefs and lifestyle
• Provide trauma-informed, neuroaffirming and person-centred support
• Remain calm and supportive when the participant feels overwhelmed
• Support appropriate conversations around personal or difficult topics
• Maintain confidentiality, dignity and professional boundaries
• Complete accurate progress notes and documentation
• Encourage confidence, autonomy and meaningful participation

• Experience supporting gender-diverse or LGBTQIA+ participants
• Experience with community access and transport

Essential Requirements

• NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current WWCC, if applicable
• Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
• Current Australian Driver Licence
• Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle
• Smartphone for documentation and communication
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to person-centred, respectful and non-judgmental support

You don’t need to be an expert in LGBTQIA+ issues. What matters is your attitude.

We are looking for someone who listens before judging, supports rather than controls, and is genuinely interested in understanding the person behind the support plan.
