AMG is seeking an experienced, highly organized Human Resources Manager to oversee the people function across our growing portfolio of companies.

This is a hands-on role responsible for the full employee lifecycle, including employment compliance, employee relations, recruiting, payroll, benefits, performance management, OSHA/workplace safety, employee engagement, company events, travel coordination, and employee technology onboarding/offboarding.


The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, comfortable working directly with executives, and capable of balancing people, compliance, culture, and business needs within a fast-growing, remote organization.


Key Responsibilities


Serve as AMG's primary internal resource for day-to-day HR and employment compliance across multiple companies.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of California, federal, and multi-state employment laws, including wage and hour, leaves and accommodations, anti-harassment/discrimination requirements, and worker classification.
  • Oversee applicable OSHA and workplace safety compliance, including required documentation, postings, training, recordkeeping, and safety procedures.
  • Develop, implement, audit, and maintain employee handbooks, HR policies, SOPs, personnel files, and compliance procedures.
  • Monitor changes in employment laws and proactively recommend necessary policy or operational updates.

  • Manage employee relations, including complaints, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, performance concerns, terminations, and documentation.
  • Coach managers and leadership on performance management, employee relations, documentation, and employment risk.
  • Manage the end-to-end recruiting process, including job descriptions, sourcing, screening, interviews, compensation benchmarking, offers, background checks, I-9/E-Verify, and onboarding.
  • Own the bi-weekly payroll process, including employee changes, deductions, withholdings, and applicable domestic/international contractor payments.
  • Manage employee benefits, coordinate with payroll providers, brokers, accounting, and outside partners.
  • Oversee state employer registrations and respond to payroll, tax, and employment agency notices.
  • Review employee and contractor classifications and identify potential compliance risks.
  • Develop and manage performance reviews, performance improvement processes, training, and employee-development initiatives.
  • Track HR KPIs and provide monthly reporting on headcount, hiring, turnover, retention, payroll, employee relations, compliance, and workforce trends.
  • Conduct HR audits and support scalable HR infrastructure as AMG continues to grow.
  • Support company events, team-building initiatives, and retreats as needed.
  • Partner with outside employment counsel when specialized legal guidance is require


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise



  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably as an HR Manager, Senior HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or similar role.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance.
  • Experience supporting multi-state employees and knowledge of applicable federal employment regulations.
  • Practical experience with OSHA/workplace safety compliance.
  • Proven experience handling employee relations, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, performance issues, and terminations.
  • Experience with payroll (Gusto experience is a plus), benefits administration, recruiting, onboarding, and HRIS systems.
  • Strong understanding of wage-and-hour requirements and employee vs. independent contractor classification.
  • Experience creating and implementing employee handbooks, policies, SOPs, and HR processes.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to confidently work with executives while managing HR responsibilities across multiple companies.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field; SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, PHRca, or similar certification; and experience within a multi-entity, professional services, financial services, tax/accounting, wealth management, media, or other regulated organization.
