Description

The Martindale-Brightwood Community Development Corporation: Small Business Support Intern strengthens the local business ecosystem by supporting outreach, relationship-building, and community programs. This role focuses on ecosystem mapping, neighborhood business directory development, and providing logistical support for workshops and virtual meetings. The ideal candidate is organized, tech-savvy, and committed to empowering local small businesses and neighborhood economic growth.

Reports To: Small Business Director
Hours: Part-Time – 10 hours per week (some evening hours required)
Location: In-person/ Occasional Field Work

Key Responsibilities & Time Allocation:
1. Ecosystem Mapping & Relationship Building – 35%

  • Identify and document key organizations, partners, and stakeholders in the local
    business ecosystem.
  • Build and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs and community partners.
  • Support the collection and organization of ecosystem data for strategic initiatives. 

2. Martindale-Brightwood Quality of Life Pillar Member – 25%

  • Represent the organization as a member of the Pillar program.
  • Conduct business outreach, surveys, and community engagement as part of the Quality-of-Life initiatives.
  • Track participation, share findings, and support neighborhood economic
    development.

3. Neighborhood Business Directory Development – 20%

  • Compile and maintain a comprehensive directory of local businesses and
    resources.
  • Organize information for accessibility across digital and print formats.
  • Collaborate with partners to verify listings and enhance business visibility.

4. Workshop Coordination & Virtual Meeting Support – 15%

  • Coordinate logistics for workshops, classes, and training sessions.
  • Manage registration, scheduling, and communication with participants and instructors.
  • Provide technical support for virtual meetings (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.).

5. Administrative & Communications Support – 5%

  • Assist with newsletters, announcements, and light social media updates.
  • Maintain calendars, contact lists, and documentation.
  • Provide general administrative assistance as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in community engagement, program coordination, or business support.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with digital tools (Google Workspace, Excel, Canva, CRM systems, Zoom).
  • Comfortable conducting outreach and occasional fieldwork.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Passionate about small business growth, community development, and neighborhood improvement initiatives.
