The Opportunity:
We are seeking a skilled System Administrator to support our government agency's IT operations. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the agency's IT infrastructure, ensuring systems operate efficiently, securely, and in compliance with government regulations. This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other IT professionals.
Responsibilities:
Administer, configure, and maintain Windows Server and Linux/Unix environments across development, test, and production systems.
Monitor system performance, availability, and reliability; proactively identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime.
Manage and maintain network infrastructure components, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and related services.
Perform system patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation in accordance with security policies and timelines.
Support virtualization platforms including provisioning, configuration, and performance tuning of virtual machines.
Manage and support cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including deployments and system integration.
Implement and enforce security controls to ensure compliance with government regulations and standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA).
Troubleshoot complex system, network, and application issues; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Maintain system backups, disaster recovery processes, and continuity of operations procedures.
Collaborate with application, database, and network teams to support system integrations and resolve cross-functional issues.
Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), system configurations, and technical documentation.
Support database environments from a system administration perspective, including performance and connectivity.
Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting and configuration management tools where applicable.
Support audits, security assessments, and compliance reporting activities.
Provide on-call support and participate in incident response as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field of study
5+ years of experience in system administration
Proven experience in system administration within a government or highly regulated environment
Proficiency with Windows Server and Linux/Unix operating systems
Knowledge of network protocols and infrastructure (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Understanding of database management systems (SQL, NoSQL)
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
Strong communication skills and the ability to document processes and procedures
Experience in patching operating systems to remediate any vulnerabilities
Understanding of government compliance requirements and security standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA)
Desired:
Preferred certifications such as:
Security+ / CISSP certification
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Familiarity with database management systems
Experience with automation and scripting
Knowledge of configuration management tools
Experience with monitoring and logging tools
Experience with government financial management systems or Momentum Financials.
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
