Reports To: Design Lead / Founder
Time Zone & Collaboration: Minimum 4 hours/day overlap with MST (Mountain Time) for the first 60–90 days; M/W/F design standups at 12:00 PM MST (flexible to 10–11 AM). Long-term, shifts to a deliverables-based model.

About the Company

A 9-year-old, fast-growing creative web agency (currently rebranding) specializing in high-performing, user-centered websites across funded B2B/B2C startups and Shopify e-commerce brands. The founder-led, lean team partners with clients to ship conversion-oriented site builds, rebrands, and landing pages—plus internal marketing assets that drive pipeline.

Why We’re Hiring

Recent growth has created a bottleneck at the founder level, causing quality to slip and timelines to stretch. We’re hiring a design-first Web Designer—someone who lives and breathes great visual design, brand consistency, and storytelling through digital experiences.

This role requires both strategic and hands-on design thinking: creating clear, effective wireframes and producing polished, on-brand final visuals. Unlike hybrid designer/developers, this person’s superpower should be design execution and visual quality.

About the Role

You’ll lead end-to-end design for:

  • Funded Startups ($1M–$50M ARR): CRO, landing pages, site refreshes

  • Shopify E-commerce ($30K–$500K/mo revenue): full site rebrands, ongoing landing pages

  • Internal Agency Marketing: social graphics, before/after visuals, redesign concepts for pitches

You’ll systematize the first 80% of projects (repeatable, conversion-focused patterns) and reserve the final 20% for creative exploration that makes the work memorable and on-brand.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery & Strategy

  • Audit existing sites to identify UX, IA, and CRO opportunities

  • Translate business goals into clear design strategies, layouts, and wireframes

  • Contribute to standardized design systems and reusable component libraries

Design Execution

  • Produce high-fidelity mockups and prototypes in Figma (desktop & mobile)

  • Create on-brand visuals, illustrations, iconography, and marketing graphics for social, ads, and landing pages

  • Ensure accessibility, responsiveness, and performance-minded design decisions

  • Maintain brand consistency across client and internal deliverables

Iteration & Collaboration

  • Incorporate feedback from clients and stakeholders quickly and thoughtfully

  • Hand off clean, organized Figma files; partner with developers to ensure design fidelity

  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with peers for refinement

Conversion & Quality

  • Apply CRO heuristics and best practices (above-the-fold clarity, CTA hierarchy, trust signals)

  • Propose rapid test ideas for landing pages and templates

  • Document learnings and improve processes with each project

Internal Marketing Support

  • Design case study visuals, pitch decks, and motion-based graphics (GIFs, reels, animations) to support agency marketing

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Design-first focus: Expert in visual, UI, and brand design. (Not a dev hybrid.)

  • Portfolio: Strong, consistent body of work showcasing multiple web, e-commerce, or marketing projects—preferably in Figma. Should include brand systems, landing pages, and visual storytelling.

  • Tools:

    • Figma (auto-layout, components, prototyping)

    • Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

    • Motion/3D tools: After Effects, Blender, Jitter (bonus)

  • UI/UX skillset: Strong hierarchy, spacing, typography, and layout sense that drives conversion and engagement.

  • Brand & Graphic Eye: Ability to create cohesive visual systems, illustrations, and marketing graphics that elevate a brand.

  • Speed & organization: Can ship strong first passes quickly and iterate rapidly.

  • Communication: Clear English, able to explain design rationale to non-designers.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Shopify & Webflow context: Familiarity with theme constraints and e-commerce page patterns (no dev required).

  • Analytics & testing: Comfort reading GA4 or funnel reports to inform design decisions.

  • Accessibility: Practical WCAG-minded design choices (contrast, focus states).

  • AI & productivity tools: Midjourney, DALL·E, Runway for ideation or moodboards.

  • Front-end awareness: Basic HTML/CSS literacy helpful but not required.

Performance Indicators

  • Portfolio Quality: Demonstrates high visual consistency, brand understanding, and UI clarity.

  • Design Speed & Efficiency: Quick concept delivery and iteration without compromising quality.

  • Conversion & Usability Impact: Documented improvements on key metrics (CTR, CVR, AOV, bounce).

  • Systemization: Creation of reusable design patterns and templates.

  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Positive feedback on communication, delivery, and collaboration.

Work Schedule & Cadence

  • Initial: 4-hour overlap with MST + M/W/F standups (12:00 PM MST, flexible to 10–11 AM)

  • Long-Term: Transition to deliverables-based workflow with milestone-driven reviews

Growth Path

This role can evolve into Design Manager, overseeing quality standards, systems, and mentoring future designers/contractors.

What to Include in Your Application

  • Portfolio: 4–6 strongest projects (at least two e-commerce and two marketing/LPO/CRO examples)

  • Each project should include a quick brief, target audience, your role, and measurable outcomes

  • Bonus: Before/after examples or a detailed Figma file showing your process—from wireframe to final visual
