Senior Design Consultant – Division 8 (DFH)

Overview
We are partnered with a leading Division 8 contractor to identify a Senior Design / Preconstruction Consultant to support complex commercial construction projects nationwide.
This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and project execution, with a focus on early-stage involvement and client-facing technical guidance.
Position Summary
The Senior Design / Preconstruction Consultant plays a critical role in design-assist and design-build efforts, working closely with architects, contractors, and internal teams to develop, coordinate, and refine opening packages.
This individual is responsible for ensuring design intent aligns with constructability, code requirements, and project constraints, while proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in design-assist and design-build projects, engaging early in the project lifecycle
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and hardware sets, identifying potential issues and coordination needs
- Provide technical guidance on product selection, system performance, and constructability
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and owners to align design intent with real-world application
- Support internal teams by establishing clear direction for detailing, submittals, and execution workflows
- Assist in value engineering efforts, helping balance design goals with project constraints
- Coordinate across disciplines, including electrified hardware and access control systems
- Navigate multi-jurisdictional code and compliance requirements
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in the Division 8 (DFH) industry
- Background in one or more of the following:
- Project Management
- Detailing
- Preconstruction / Design
- Demonstrated experience in design-assist or design-build environments
- Strong understanding of:
- Hardware sets
- Specifications
- Code requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with:
- Architects
- General Contractors
- Owners
- Proven ability to identify issues early and provide practical solutions
Technical Skills
- Experience with Comsense
- Familiarity with major DFH manufacturers and vendor ecosystems to include, but not limited to:

Curries, CECO, & VT Online
- Understanding of electrified hardware coordination and system integration
